京都にて六十年前に創業した きぬ川畳店は、伝統的な畳作りの技を守りながら、日本の暮らしの心を映す美を紡ぎ続けている。千年以上受け継がれた技を基に、職人は一枚の畳をミリ単位で精密に縫い上げ、手の感覚を頼りに形を整え、完璧な平面を生み出す―まさに“和のエンジニア”である。若い世代にも、伝統を知る世代にも畳を身近に感じてもらいたいという願いから生まれた、同社オリジナルの 「京モダン畳」 は、日本初の国産い草を用いたデザイン畳である。いぐさをジャカード織りで精巧に織り上げ、自由な模様表現を可能にした。染めたい草を一本一本丁寧に織り込むことで、完成する畳は、古（いにしえ）より受け継がれる和の美意識を静かに宿す。伝統と革新が静かに溶け合うこれらの畳は、日本の住まいはもちろん、西洋の空間にも調和し、畳の上で過ごすひとときに、心安らぐ静謐と優雅な詩情をもたらす。
Founded in Kyoto sixty years ago, KINUGAWA TATAMI WORKS continues to uphold the traditional craft of tatami-making, weaving a beauty that reflects the very essence of Japanese life. Drawing on techniques handed down for over a thousand years, the artisans craft each tatami with millimeter precision, guided by touch alone, to achieve a flawless surface — true engineers of Japanese craftsmanship. Born from a wish to bring tatami closer both to younger generations and to those who have lived with its tradition, the company’s original collection, “Kyo Modern Tatami,” is Japan’s first designer tatami made from 100% domestically grown igusa. Using the jacquard weaving technique, each dyed rush strand is carefully interlaced by hand, allowing for subtle and expressive pattern design. The resulting tatami embodies a refined Japanese sensibility — a quiet harmony where tradition and innovation coexist. Whether placed in a Japanese home or a Western interior, it invites moments of calm, grace, and gentle poetry to those who rest upon it.
